The GCSE Maths Syllabus is set to change starting in 2015 for the first examinations in 2017 Press Release The subject will be tiered with an improved overlapping tiers model. A foundation tier will cover grades 1-5 and the higher tier will cover grades 4-9. Assessed by external exam only, as now. The new GCSEs in English language, English literature and Maths will take priority and will be introduced for first teaching from 2015.
The new system will be a fully linear structure, with all assessment at the end of the course and content not divided into modules. This is to avoid the disruption to teaching and learning through repeated assessment, to allow students to demonstrate the full breadth of their abilities in the subject, and to allow standards to be set fairly and consistently. The Exams will be in the Summer and in November for the over 16's.
We spend time looking and practicing exam papers both those set by the examination boards and also looking and practicing many similar questions.
We spend time looking at the areas of student weakness and turn these into strengths. In schools the students must move onto the next topic. We can concentrate on any topics that the student is unsure of, strengthening those areas in which the student is weak.
We try to make well rounded individuals who are confident in their own ability in the subject. From this confidence come excellent grades and a sure foundation for further work or supporting work at University.
We probably teach more GCSE Maths than any other subject. We teach AQA, Edexcel and Edexcel iGCSE Mathematics.
Maths is a core subject that it is essential that your child achieves a minimum of a C grade in this. We teach both Foundation and Higher Maths trying to get most of our students to achieve an A* grade. We take students from year 3 helping them build a strong Maths foundation.
Once GCSE Maths has been achieved many students stay with us for their A Level Maths support.
